Hutan Kencana Group partners with Syngenera, have formed a Joint Venture called Hutan Synergy. Hutan Synergy leads the sales and marketing for a pipeline of forestry carbon projects in Southeast Asia.
Hutan Kencana Group is seeking an experienced professional to lead its Nature Based Solutions Section, focusing on the development and monitoring of AFOLU carbon projects (e.g., REDD, IFM, ARR). The role involves overseeing technical analyses, ensuring project compliance with international standards, managing a technical team, and engaging with partners.
Job Description
Technical Analyses, Project Management and Quality Assurance
- Lead the technical analyses and reporting related to the climate and biodiversity components in support of evaluation of NBS project opportunities, project design and development, and project monitoring. Projects will focus mostly on AFOLU carbon projects (e.g., REDD, IFM, ARR, biochar, etc.). Analyses and reporting performed include (amongst others) biomass (AGB and BGB) assessment in peat and mangroves, peat depth modeling, hydrology modeling, biodiversity assessment, reforestation feasibility assessment, estimation of carbon emissions reductions/removals, etc.
- Ensure technical excellence and innovation in approach, in compliance with international (e.g., Verra VCS-CCBS, Gold Standard, etc.) and national requirements.
- Lead the PD submission, including coordination of validation, verification and registration processes with Verra or other certification bodies and relevant Verification/Validation Body (VVB).
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to climate and biodiversity components in all stages of the project’s phases, ensuring that SOPs reflect current best practices, technological advancements, and international and national regulatory requirements.
- Lead the technical reviews of external partners/subcontractors’ work in relation to climate and biodiversity components.
Team Leadership and Management
- Support Project Development & MRV Manager in talent acquisition for NBS Division.
- Technically supervise, manage, and mentor a team of specialists.
Stakeholder/Partner Engagement
- Support Program Development & MRV Manager in identifying potential partnerships with external stakeholders (in relation to technical support relevant to NBS projects).
- Stay up-to-date on the evolving landscape of forestry carbon projects, including any changes in Verra and other standards as well as those related to international processes (Article 6 of Paris Agreement).
Job Requirements
- Candidates must possess at minimum a Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Soil Science, Hydrology, Conservation Biology, or any related field. Master’s Degree is preferred.
- Minimum 8-10 years of professional working experience in in the field of forestry, environmental science, conservation, or related field.
- Experience with forestry related field data sampling and collection methodologies.
- Experience in emissions reductions/removals calculation / carbon modeling for REDD, IFM, and ARR projects.
- Knowledge and prior experience with AFOLU project development under international standards (e.g., Verra VCS-CCBS, Gold Standards, among others) and national standards/requirements required.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams, managing complex projects, and delivering high-impact results. Self-starter with excellent organizational skills.
- Strong analytical and technical writing skills; extreme attention to detail.
- Professional experience in project management and project reporting.
- Demonstrated professional-level fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia is required.
- Ability to travel to project sites, as required.
