GIZ Indonesia for The Renewable Energy for Electrification Programme (REEP): Junior Advisor for Renewable Energy Grid Integration

implementing organisation which provides services worldwide in the field of
international cooperation for sustainable development.
GIZ
has a record of more than 20 years of involvement in the renewable energy (RE)
sector in Indonesia. Started with mini hydropower for rural electrification,
the portfolio has expanded to other renewable energies for larger
grid-connected systems (i.e. biomass, biogas, photovoltaics), energy efficiency
and RE grid integration.
GIZ
aims to develop and strengthen capacities of the Indonesian renewable energy
and energy efficiency sector and strives to support in implementation of high
quality applications of various renewable energies and energy efficiency.

GIZ
in cooperation with the Direktorat Jenderal Energi Baru, Terbarukan dan
Konservasi Energi (DJEBTKE) is currently implementing 1,000 Islands –
Renewable Energy for Electrification Programme (REEP) project with the
objective to demonstrate the feasibility of Indonesia’s renewable energy target
of 23% by 2025 in selected pilot grids.

seeks qualified Indonesian candidates for 1 (one) positions of
Junior Advisor for Renewable Energy Grid
Integration
A. Responsibilities
- Provide technical support in the implementation
of REEP demonstration projects, capacity development and private sector
cooperation activities on subjects related to REEP project objective and
indicators - Assist in monitoring project progress, assess
and review technical reports and documents concerning project progress,
determine bottlenecks and recommend alternative courses of management action to
the Principal Advisor and/or Project Manager - Assist in preparing reports, power-point
presentations and brochures as outputs from pilot project results or other
related activities - Initiate and maintain communication and cooperation
between the Project and key implementing partners on renewable energies
(including hybrid) and grid integration - Assist in the development of capacity building
curricula and facilitate training activities in close collaboration with key
implementing partners and other related international projects/programs - Assist the Project Manager in project management
tasks as assigned
B. Tasks
1.
Pilot Project Assessment and Implementation
- Support the assessment of technical and economic
(techno-economic) feasibility of RE grid integration pilot projects in close
coordination with seconded Technical Advisors and external consultants - Support development, supervision and monitoring
of implemented RE grid integration pilot projects - Support identification and quantification of
scaling up options of RE grid integration pilot projects
2. Management
and Coordination
- Develop technical Terms of References (ToR) for
contracted third parties (e.g. external consultants and/or service providers) - Supervise and manage contracted third parties
according to agreed deliverables as stated in ToR - Monitor project progress, assess and review
technical reports and documents concerning project progress, determine
bottlenecks and recommend alternative courses of management action to the
Principal Advisor and/or Project Manager - Conceptualize, prepare and implement workshops,
trainings, study tours and other capacity building events on subjects that are
related to REEP project’s key performance indicators - Assist in developing and submitting proposals
for further development initiatives
3. Networking and Cooperation
- Develop and maintain close contacts with key
implementing partners on the following topics: - legal and regulatory framework issues: EBTKE, DJ
Gatrik, PEMDA (e.g. Distamben, Bappeda, Sekda) and other relevant ministries - demonstration projects: PLN Pusat and PLN
Wilayah - private sector cooperation: IPP, project
developers, technology providers - Develop and maintain contacts with other
relevant stakeholders such as education and training institutions, R&D
institutions, finance institutions, associations, NGOs and donors related to
the RE sector - Develop and maintain information exchange
between REEP project and other international projects and/or working groups
related to RE grid integration
4.
Knowledge management
- Stay abreast of developments in global and
Indonesian approaches for renewable energies (including hybrid) and grid
integration - Prepare presentation materials such as brochures
and power-point presentations as outputs from pilot project results or other
related activities

Other duties / additional tasks
- Subject to discussions with the Principal
Advisor and/or Project Manager, the Advisor may be allocated additional tasks
and other duties for shorter periods. - The Advisor shall be prepared to work in
different GIZ offices in Jakarta or in regions on regular schedule and to work
on REEP project related issues as well as cross-program topics

Required qualifications, competences and experience
Qualifications
- Science orientated master’s degree in either
electrical engineering, environmental engineering, chemical engineering or
comparable specialization with good understanding of technical and economic
aspects of renewable energies (including hybrid) and grid integration - The ideal candidate for pilot project
implementation would have the following skill set: - Skills in technical evaluation of energy demand
profiles (energy audits) - Knowledge in electrical measurements /
electrical installation - Experience in design of RE systems
- General understanding of grid-impact of variable
RE systems, including power transmission, distribution and generator management - Understanding of economic feasibility
calculations in renewable energies (including hybrid) and grid integration
applications - Very good working knowledge of IT, communication
technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, internet) and computer
applications (e.g. MS Office) - Very good communication skills in English and
Bahasa Indonesia, including speaking and writing
Professional
experience
- Interest and sufficient knowledge in major
issues of renewable energy and grid integration in Indonesia and international - at least 3 years prior working experience in
energy-related private sector and/or PLN is advantageous - Regional experience or prior work in a global
organization/event is preferred - Insight into the International Development
Cooperation work - Experience in events preparation, coordination
and organization
