Project Overview

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations. Its corporate objective is to improve people’s living conditions on a sustainable basis.

The AI Academia–Industry Innovation Partnerships in Asia Project aims to build AI talent and applied AI innovation across Germany, India, Indonesia and Viet Nam and to connect academia and industry across Germany and Asia for hands-on AI talent development and applied AI innovation.

In Indonesia the project works together with Industry: Industries seeking AI-ready talent and applied innovation Industries lack AI-ready talent, applied research capacity, and safe innovation spaces Academia: Students, graduates, faculty, and researchers from technical and non-technical disciplines and Ecosystem partners: Public-sector actors and AI innovation stakeholders

To support this work, GIZ is currently recruiting two (2) Indonesian candidates for these positions.

Core Tasks

In your role you are responsible for the technical, substantive and organisational implementation of a project’s measures and activities. In consultation with your line manager, you also assume tasks related to planning, steering and monitoring the project, including project administration tasks in some cases. You are also responsible for providing specialist support to col- leagues in bands 2 and 3 and ensure the quality of the commission’s outcomes.

In addition, you contribute to the conceptual design of the project, in particular its modification or realignment.

You make technical and substantive contributions to overarching issues in cooperation with commissioning parties/clients, partners and other actors and thereby support the achievement of the agreed objectives of the respective project and provide impetus for further strategy development.

In coordination with the country director and your line manager, you also use your contacts for the acquisition of contracts on behalf of the company.

In consultation with your team colleagues and line manager, you also coordinate all issues within your area of work and ensure that they are dealt with promptly and competently. You resolve problems that arise in your area of responsibility on the basis of existing rules and draw attention to more complex challenges in your team.

You are involved in ongoing process development within your remit, are responsible for knowledge management and prepare and share documentation. If required, you also support other experts in familiarising themselves with and performing their tasks.

You perform the tasks assigned to you by your line manager, where required.

Main Activities

  • AI Living Lab Development & University Partnership Management, including lead, develop, coordinate the AI living lab development and university partnership management activities to enable applied AI experimentation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and industry-connected learning including support the integration of Living Lab activities into university innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems.
  • Private Sector Engagement and Industry Partnership Development, including engage and onboard German and European SMEs and other industry partners in-to the project’s innovation activities. Build and maintain relationships with private sector stakeholders to establish a sustainable pipeline of industry challenges and collaboration opportunities.
  • Innovation Challenge Design and Delivery, including design and managing innovation processes, including AI challenges, problem-solving sprints, proof-of-concept activities, hackathons, and company-led innovation projects. Monitor implementation progress and support the successful delivery of challenged outcomes, prototypes, and partnership results.
  • Talent Development and International Collaboration Facilitation, including preparing students and participating teams for engagement with international industry partners through training, orientation, and mentoring activities. Support knowledge exchange and learning activities that contribute to workforce development, innovation capacity, and international talent development.
  • Project Operations, Monitoring, Knowledge Management and Communication. Contribute to monitoring and evaluation (M&E) processes, including data collection, indicator tracking, results documentation, and reporting against project objectives and outcomes.

Job Requirements

  • University degree (master’s preferred) in Management/ Business/ International Relations/ Communications/ IT/ Computer Science.
  • Ability to build and maintain strategic relationships with universities, (German/ European) SMEs, research institutions, innovation ecosystem actors, and public-sector partners across diverse cultural and institutional contexts.
  • At least 5 (five) years of strong skills in project planning, implementation, procurement, reporting, quality assurance, and results-based management in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Excellent communication, moderation, networking, and presentation skills, with the ability to facilitate collaboration among multidisciplinary and multicultural teams and stakeholders. Work experience with international organizations is an asset.
  • Ability to identify opportunities, solve problems proactively, manage complexity, and contribute to the strategic development and sustainability of international innovation partnerships.
  • Excellent communication skills and fluency in English (at least C1 level)
