INTERNSHIP-Prototyping and Assembling Assistant for Early Warning System Development (2 positions)
Job Description
The successful candidate will support the technical implementation and field deployment of the FFEWES initiative and will be responsible for:
- Assisting in the assembly and integration of IoT-based flood and fire monitoring devices
- Installing and configuring environmental sensors including water level, rainfall, smoke detector, flame, temperature, humidity, and soil moisture sensors
- Supporting the setup and configuration of Raspberry Pi-based embedded systems and communication modules
- Conducting prototype testing, calibration, and troubleshooting of hardware components and sensor systems
- Collaborating with software developers and interdisciplinary project teams during system integration and testing
Supporting community engagement activities and technical demonstrations where required
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Enrolment as a senior undergraduate student, diploma student, or recent graduate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics, Instrumentation, Telecommunications, Physics, Environmental Engineering, or related technical fields
- Basic understanding of electronics, embedded systems, and sensor integration
- Familiarity with microcontrollers, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, or similar embedded platforms
- Basic Linux familiarity
- Experience working with basic electronic components, wiring, soldering, and prototyping tools
- Basic understanding of communication systems and IoT concepts
- Ability to read technical diagrams, wiring schematics, and component documentation
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to work in field conditions
- Troubleshooting/documentation skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to work with Git or version control (optional)
Preferred Assets:
- Experience with IoT projects, environmental monitoring systems, or robotics
- Familiarity with Raspberry Pi GPIO, serial communication, or sensor calibration
- Experience with solar power systems, batteries, or low-power electronics
- Experience with waterproof enclosure assembly or outdoor equipment installation
Strong interest in climate adaptation, disaster resilience, sustainability, or community technology initiatives
